In front of the entire student body, senior Isaiah Farmer asks junior Markayla Footman to Homecoming at the pep rally.
In the days leading up to the annual Homecoming dance, students will often invite someone to go to the dance with them. These invitations are called proposals and have been very popular as of late. Homecoming proposals can vary, but many fall along the lines of a cute poster with either a song or a pun to ask their partner. Typically, students will ask someone they are dating, their crush or a close friend.
While some proposals are elaborate, many are just very simple. “I brought her a poster and asked her to Homecoming,” senior Brayden Chason said.
The key to a successful Homecoming proposal is the element of surprise and a touch of sentimentality to show the thought behind it.
“I was shocked, because we were looking at his picture day outfit. I heard music by my favorite artist, and I looked behind me, and I found a poster that said ‘Will you go to homecoming with me?’” junior Madison Martin said.
This was Martin’s first homecoming date, so the proposal was special and left a lasting impression on her. Moments like that set the bar high, and the question stands: will Promposals steal the crown from Homecoming proposals?
