When boys’ varsity basketball coach Colin Anderson first walked into the gym, the players had no idea what to expect. However, the new head coach quickly brought fresh energy and a new tone to the Florida High program, built on accountability, confidence and the belief that this team could be something special.
That confidence has quickly spread throughout the team. Players say the atmosphere has pushed them to trust their abilities and each other more than ever.
“I have 110% confidence, because I don’t think there is anyone that can stop us this year,” sophomore Dorian Jones said. For a team with a new coach and good players, belief might be their strongest weapon.
That belief did not just appear overnight; it was built during their arduous offseason, from losing their former coach to not knowing what to expect from coach Anderson. During the offseason, players focused on sharpening their skills and mindset to meet the new expectations.
“I watched film, trained and was prepared for the battles the season may bring,” sophomore Ethan Certain said. Their offseason work shows that they are committed to backing up their confidence with effort.

With the season soon to be underway, coach Anderson is setting the tone and expectations for what is to come. He emphasizes that winning is not about shortcuts or quick fixes but rather committing to something bigger.
“I believe in order to get to victory, we must fall in love with the process. If we put our 100% focus into the process of becoming one as a team, that alone will lead us to victory,” Anderson said.
With that strong mindset, Florida High is not just aiming to build a strong season but a new identity.
Moving forward, the team believes it has everything it needs: committed players and a coach determined to make a lasting statement. With their confidence, hard work and a growing bond holding them together, this season is not just about chasing wins; it is about proving what can happen when a team has faith in one shared vision.
