From oversized hoodies to layered looks, winter fashion is making a statement on campus. Students are weighing in on which trends should stick around and which ones need to disappear in order to balance style and warmth.
Gavino Perez: With Birkenstock clogs being the trendy new shoe everyone wore during the fall and winter, “Everyone looks the same, and when you walk around the halls going to class, people are wearing the Birkenstock clogs just in some different colors,” senior Gavino Perez said. With quarter-zip sweaters going viral, “looks more put together and actually dressed for cold weather,” Perez said. Real winter layers would make everyone look more appropriate and less like they’re just slipping into whatever was comfortable.
With these past weeks going from hot to very cold, here there are still people walking around in shorts while it’s in the mid 30s. “With it being this cold, I feel like people need to switch them in for sweatpants, real jackets, and layers that actually keep you warm,” freshman Sebastien Williams said. Staying warm should matter more than trying to prove you’re not cold.
These past few weeks have been cold, but some students have been wearing onesies that might be cozy yet are overused, especially when it seems like everyone just rolled out of bed. “It’d be way better to see more real streetwear, like baggy jeans, clean hoodies and maybe even bringing Timbs back,” freshman Aaleeyah Dennis said. It’s time to switch it up and actually dress for winter without making it look like pajama day.

This winter, it’s time for people to stop wearing crop tops as if it isn’t in the 20s and 30s at 9 a.m. “When it’s cold out, it just makes more sense to throw on an actual warm hoodie instead,” freshman Alffis Pena said. Students should layer up with warmer clothes, like hoodies and jackets, to stay more comfortable in the chilly weather.
This winter, students seriously need to retire the tight joggers and random pajama pants at school. “Since it’s so cold out, it’s better to wear jeans so you can stay warm and still look put together,” freshman Amelia Bair said. It’s time to dress like it’s winter, not like you just rolled out of bed, because you’re still going to be cold in those pajama pants.
