Florida’s shoreline stretches from quiet, shell-scattered coves to wide sweeps of turquoise water, each one claimed by locals as the state’s finest. With so many stretches of sand competing for attention, the search for the best beach becomes a journey through the very spirit of the Sunshine State.
“My favorite beach is Santa Rosa Beach because it’s the beach me and my friends go to the most, and I just like the vibe and the area a lot,” senior Emory Estevez said.
Santa Rosa Beach is part of 30A, a scenic 24-mile stretch of Florida’s Gulf Coast known for its sugar-white sand, turquoise water and charming beach towns. While Santa Rosa is a favorite for many locals, I think the best beach along 30A is found in one of its most iconic communities: Alys Beach. It is a stunning town where the water is incredibly clear and calm, the architecture is bright white and every corner feels like a perfect photo spot. To me, Alys Beach is hands down the best.
Some Floridians are not as fond of 30A and prefer more private areas. “I would say Sanibel Island is my favorite beach because it’s beautiful, private, and there are many shells,” senior Sumerlyn Burger said.
While some people prefer the quiet and privacy of beaches such as Sanibel Island, many are drawn to the classic feel of Florida’s original coastal spots. These places offer wide stretches of sand, lively crowds and a familiar atmosphere that feels timeless. The appeal of a more traditional beach experience is why Panama City Beach remains a favorite for plenty of beachgoers, providing another perspective on what makes a beach stand out.
“My favorite beach in Florida is Panama City, because there is a lot to do,” junior Thatcher Roethle said.
Florida has so many different beaches that everyone ends up finding their own favorite. Some people love the calm, clear water of places like Alys Beach, while others prefer the quiet of Sanibel Island or the excitement of Panama City Beach. No matter which one you choose, each beach offers something special, and that’s what makes Florida’s coastline so great.
