Last year, Florida High instituted an exam exemption policy. Students with five or fewer unexcused absences and all As or Bs in a course were exempt from taking final exams. This year, a change was made to that policy. No longer are students allowed to have unexcused absences to be exempt from exams.
Changing the number of allowed absences definitely affected most students’ perspective on how important it is to come to school and how missing class can affect their education.
“Getting to school on time helps my education because I get to learn more than I would if I were not here,” freshman Myla Reid said
Most students have the idea that it’s not fair or very strict and forceful for them.
“I feel like it isn’t fair because people sometimes have busy or forgetful parents, and they might not be able to call in those excused absences every time they miss school,” sophomore Ayana Palucha said.
All students have different opinions on the new exemption policy; some see it as forceful, but others see it as a reward for their hard work.
