As the Florida High wrestling team gears up for the new season, the spotlight is on the growth and discipline of its student-athletes. Throughout the offseason, wrestlers dedicated themselves to refining their technique, increasing their strength and developing the mental toughness needed to compete at a high level. This preparation, athletes say, is key to setting the tone for the months ahead.
“One thing I worked on this offseason was trying to be more aggressive and set up shots better,” senior Sterling Hollingsworth said. Veteran wrestlers like Hollingsworth believe that the work they put in now will pave the way for a successful season, both individually and as a team.
As the upperclassmen push to elevate the team’s standard, younger wrestlers are stepping into larger roles with enthusiasm. Their eagerness to grow and willingness to learn from more experienced teammates add fresh energy to the roster and strengthen the team dynamic.
“I want to get better at my shots this season,” eighth-grade wrestler Lillie Pepper said.
These emerging athletes aren’t just filling space; they’re raising expectations. Their determination to improve and their focus on building strong habits early demonstrate a commitment that resonates throughout the team.
“I’m going to try to get top six at state,” freshman Wyatt Feltgen said.
The seniors, meanwhile, hope their leadership encourages other students to give wrestling a try and experience the benefits firsthand.
“Joining the wrestling team would be the best thing for them, but they would never know until they come out and try,” Hollingsworth said.
With experienced leaders, motivated newcomers, and a shared dedication to hard work, the Florida High wrestling team enters the season aiming for growth, grit, and accomplishments on and off the mat.
