With a wide variety of clubs at Florida High, everyone can find a club that caters to their specific interests. One of the many clubs at Florida High is the Science National Honor Society (SNHS), which oversees Florida High’s science fair.
“We meet every other Wednesday and offer both morning and afternoon meetings,” SNHS sponsor Micha Nowak said.
“We focus on science stuff like the science fair, and we also get guest speakers sometimes that are really interesting,” SNHS president Alisa Rolston said.
Joining this club offers students a variety of opportunities to explore and engage in the world of science. Students can learn a lot from this experience, and seniors even receive a cord at graduation.
“SNHS works with community and university STEM members to introduce [club] members to various opportunities that they may not be aware of through guest speakers and public outreach,” Nowak said.
“We have a lot of guest speakers who come in. One was a meteorologist who talked about what [they research and how they study the atmosphere to forecast the weather and understand the climate],” Rolston said.
Nowak and Rolston express their pride in the club by sharing the opportunities it offers students while honoring how much this club and its members have grown over time.
“I like it because I get to hear people’s different perspectives and witness how they grow throughout the year,” Rolston said.
SNHS is a club open to juniors and seniors who are excited to participate in and learn about science. With the school-wide fair wrapping up on Nov. 20, competitors from Florida High are heavily anticipating the regional-level science fair.
