The final season of “Stranger Things” has wrapped, leaving a void in the hearts of millions. To fill that void, fans are looking for interesting series to stream and binge. This is not just about entertainment; it is about finding a new community.
“I’m currently bingeing ‘Grey’s Anatomy’. I got 11 seasons in, and then it really started to go downhill, so I’m just rewatching it from the start again,” senior Ireland O’Dell said.
O’Dell reflects a common experience among viewers of long-running shows. Many fans find themselves rewatching earlier seasons, as the quality and storylines can sometimes decline over time.
“I would say ‘Smiling Friends’ is definitely made for college students and younger folk because it has language,” senior Claire Waterman said.
“Smiling Friends” is an animated comedy. Waterman also talks about shows that are for college students, such as “Adventure Time”, which is an animated fantasy and adventure series. People may go to trending shows or hidden, under-the-radar shows to fill the gap “Stranger Things” left.
“I really like ‘The Good Place’. I haven’t heard a lot of people talk about it, but it’s one of my favorite shows,” Waterman said.
“The Good Place” is a philosophical comedy series. Some unpopular shows can be found on social media, sparking people’s interests and involving more people in conversations about new shows.
“It evokes a lot of conversations about the show. In the comment section of a video about a show, everyone fights each other and has arguments about different characters and stories, and it’s really interesting to read. You get everyone’s perspective about how characters are portrayed,” Waterman said.
These shows have the opportunity to feel fresh and new or rehash old ideas differently. For example, “Grey’s Anatomy”, being a very old show, can sometimes rehash old ideas.
Waterman adds on to O’Dell’s statement, mentioning cartoons. “I feel like new cartoons, like ‘Smiling Friends’, are definitely kind of like older stuff. There are new jokes, but it’s still the same animation style,” Waterman said.
Whether it is watching “Stranger Things” or “Grey’s Anatomy”, people tend to binge-watch shows to stay current with trends, driven by a desire to stay informed and be entertained.
