With weightlifting districts coming to an end, student-athletes on the team have been working hard to win.
“I want to break the school record that was set in 2004 or 2006 for power clean and jerk. The record is 300 [pounds],” senior Jason Aliche said.
In weightlifting, there are certain weight classes, and people have to cut weight to make sure they can lift for their own weight class.
“I have to cut, and I was over eight pounds. All of my stats went up, but I didn’t lose any muscle mass,” freshman Zayne Earl said.
“I usually cut with a slight calorie deficit and try not to eat as much, and think about it. Go into a calorie deficit, but don’t starve yourself because you’ll lose muscle mass,” Earl said.
Districts are done, and regionals are officially on the way, leaving the lifters with little time to trim weight and massive goals to conquer as they fight for their place to go to state.
