Florida High’s basketball program is turning a new page with the hiring of head coach Colin Anderson, a seasoned leader who holds an impressive track record of success.
Anderson, who previously guided Crossroad Academy to back-to-back state championship appearances, was officially introduced to the Seminoles over the summer during their offseason workouts. At Crossroad, he built a reputation for discipline, teamwork and high-level execution on both ends of the court.
“Daily work ethic, competition and paying attention to the little things are the keys to making it to state,” Anderson said. Anderson emphasized that success won’t come overnight, but through consistent commitment from every player on the roster. By pushing one another and holding themselves to high standards, Anderson believes this group has the potential to grow into a team that can compete with the best in the state.
One of the players expected to take on a larger role under Anderson is junior guard Calvin Laing, who will be stepping into the spotlight after the graduation of several senior leaders. Laing, who impressed during summer sessions, says he is ready to embrace the challenge.
“I know I have a big role this year,” Laing said. “Last season I was playing behind eight seniors, but now it’s my time to step up and lead.” With a new coach and a fresh roster, Laing has set his sights on helping the Seminoles return to championship contention.
Sophomore Ethan Certain echoed that confidence and praised the culture Anderson is already building.
“I love how coach Anderson emphasizes that mindset matters,” Certain said. “He even got us shirts with that phrase on it to remind us every day.”
With a renewed focus and a roster eager to prove itself, the Seminoles believe a new era of Florida High basketball is on the horizon.
