As the Pure Insurance Championship in Monterey Peninsula, California, approaches, sophomore Hunter Glantz is preparing by perfecting his swing, learning new skills and building new connections.
Glantz has been golfing for most of his life after his dad introduced him to the sport. For Glantz, competing in the tournament is an opportunity to step outside his comfort zone and prove himself.
“It’ll help me meet new people, and I think this shows people that they could do things like this, too,” Glantz said.
As the tournament approaches, Glantz is not the only one looking forward to seeing how he performs. Junior Robbie Vos said Glantz’s mental approach to the game helps him stay focused.
“I think his mental game keeps him shooting low because he stays so calm,” Vos said.
Glantz’s participation in the tournament also has an impact on his Florida High teammates. Junior Kelan Yoshikawa said Glantz’s performance motivates the team to continue improving.
“He definitely keeps everybody on task and makes everyone want to get better because they see his low scores, and it makes us want to push harder to try and get lower scores,” Yoshikawa said.
For Glantz, competing in the tournament is another opportunity to develop his game while representing Florida High. His teammates will be watching to see how he handles the challenge and how the experience contributes to his future in golf.
