Florida High sets up for the match of a lifetime with a new tennis coach this year. Coach Mitch Rogers comes with many years of experience and plans to strengthen the team and guide players.
“The new coach has been a really great adjustment for the team environment. We are able to have practices every day, and we have a good connection as a team,” sophomore tennis player Lily Morgan said.
Morgan’s perspective highlights how Rogers’s approach has not only strengthened the team’s skills on the court but also deepened the team connection in order to make the season better for everyone.
“The hardest part of joining the team as a new coach was getting to know everyone in a short period of time before the season started, because I was a last-minute hire. Halfway through the season is where we should be at the beginning of the season,” Rogers said.
Rogers’s transition into the team has not been easy, with the tight timeline demanding a lot of labor from both the coach and the players. Despite these challenges, Rogers’s focus on progress shows a commitment to getting the team where they need to be.
“There have been many improvements that the new coach has made to better us as a team. For example, he has introduced drills that work on our doubles skills, which have improved our doubles work a lot,” junior tennis player Sreyas Narayan said.
The arrival of Rogers signifies a new era for Florida High’s tennis team. Despite stepping into this role upon relatively short notice, he has already begun shaping disciplined, connected and skill-focused players. As the season continues, this new coach is leading our tennis team to a stronger, unified future.
