After four years with the Florida High soccer program, Joshua Bruno is taking on a new role this season as the varsity team’s head coach after former coach Manuel Rico’s departure.

     With the new season around the corner, players are preparing for the upcoming year. When senior Jathniel Yegres was asked about the season ahead, he shared what the team can expect.

      “Definitely, it’s my senior year. I’m ready to go all out.” Yegres said.

     Working with a new coach brings some excitement to the players this season. With a new coach, players are not only willing to train hard but also show passion, excitement and determination in the new season. Bruno expects the players not only to be ready to play, but also to hold each other accountable.

     “Holding each other accountable is what makes a team and builds chemistry, helping everyone get along,” Bruno said. 

     Winning and having a good record is not really Bruno’s intention, although it makes a team look good. His true intentions are for everyone to be able to get along, perform as a team and have everyone look after each other not only as players but as family.

     “After the way our season ended last year, we have so much to prove to our fans, coaches and the school; our comeback is just getting started,” senior Adrian Diaz, said.

     “This season we are hoping to go undefeated and try and win state,” said Coach Bruno.

     The Florida High boys soccer team will compete in two overnight tournaments this season, one in Panama City and another in Gainesville. The last time the boys played in tournaments like these, it didn’t end well. With a new coach this season, the team is looking to have a different outcome.
