After stuffing the run and delivering 15 tackles, with 10 of them being solo, in a Friday game against South Walton High School on Sept. 19, varsity linebacker Jason Harville won the Big Bend Athlete of the Week for his performance.
The honor is awarded to some of the top athletes in the Big Bend area every week. “I didn’t do any special pregame ritual. I just watched more film of South Walton’s offense to make sure I knew what I was going to play against,” Harville said.

Harville’s defensive effort helped slow down South Walton’s offense, which only scored 14 points against Florida High’s 34–14 victory.
With that victory in the past, Harville needs to set his sights on something else. When he was asked about his next goal, he replied, “Getting into a college.”
Evidently, Harville is not just working hard on the field but also working hard in the classroom.
“[Jason] has always been a really good athlete. He’s just grown to be a better student,” Coach Julius Harley said.
It is his mix of preparation and discipline that allowed Harville to deliver his award-winning performance. Keeping up with these skills will ensure many more victories in Harville’s future.
